Have you been curious about ceramics and wanted to give it a try? In this workshop, we will use simple hand building tools and basic templates to learn how to create 1-3 small pots. You will also be able to paint and decorate the pots using underglaze. Aziza will glaze them in a food safe glaze. Then, they will be ready for pick-up 4 weeks after the workshop. The workshop fee covers material costs.

Learning Outcomes

  • Come away with an understanding of basic hand-building techniques.
  • Understand the use of underglazes for surface decoration.
  • Understand the construction of a piece.
  • Gain the skills to create your own ceramic hand-built pieces.

Program

In the first part of the class, we will go over the various techniques and tools needed to hand-build your own work. All tools will be provided.

In the second part of the class, you will make your own pieces to prepare them for decorating with glazes.

In the third part of the class, we will go over underglazes, which you can use to paint and decorate your pieces. A selection of underglazes will be provided, as well as brushes.

Finally, I will transport and fire the pieces in my studio, and finish them in a clear, food safe glaze, which will be available for pick up 4 weeks after the workshop.

You will be given a document with the techniques you learned so you can continue your ceramics journey!
