Why “Painting”

At Index, we approach web development as a creative practice. We blur the lines between design and coding, often making websites that resemble experimental art rather than something commercial. In this series, we showcase developers’ approaches to painting a website, inspired by Bob Ross's “The Joy of Painting” series.

Watch as a website is constructed from scratch, layer by layer. Learn to think critically about how the web is built, why it’s built that way, and then throw it all out the window as we explore radically different techniques and perspectives.

Based on prompts from the audience (that’s you!), our featured developer will re-create complex effects and demystify the tools of the trade. By participating in the creation of the site step by step, you’ll learn to see the browser as a canvas.
