Over the course of his life, Chaim Gross collected and created hundreds of works of art. Gross worked predominantly in wood, stone, and eventually bronze, and is known for his carvings of circus performers, dancers, and intimate mother and child pairings in a style that combined Modernist, African, and folk forms. Gross and his wife Renee moved into a four-story historic townhouse in Greenwich Village in 1963 and made it their home and studio. This townhouse is now the Renee & Chaim Gross Foundation, and Gross’ collection of artwork remains largely as he left it inside his home.
This guided tour, offered by the foundation through Index, will explore Gross’s sculpture studio and gallery as well as living and dining space featuring their private art collection. The tour will also explore the foundation’s exhibition space.
