Description
Have you ever seen a web interaction from a fancy site-builder and thought wow that looks insane, I could probably never make that myself? This quick workshop will show you how to reverse-engineer some of these interactions to show you how easy and fun web development can be.
Join us for a participatory coding workshop where you will:
- Learn the basics of reverse-engineering sites
- Learn how to ask the right questions as you inspect code
- Familiarize yourself with a CSS pre-processor
- Gain confidence to develop novel layouts & complex interactions
Why "Painting"?
At Index, we approach web development as a creative practice. We blur the lines between design and coding, often making websites that resemble experimental art rather than something commercial. In this series, we showcase developers' approaches to painting a website, inspired by Bob Ross's "The Joy of Painting" series.
Watch as a website is constructed from scratch, layer by layer. Learn to think critically about how the web is built, why it's built that way, and then throw it all out the window as we explore radically different techniques and perspectives.
Based on prompts from the audience (that's you!), our featured developer will re-create complex effects and demystify the tools of the trade. By participating in the creation of the site step by step, you'll learn to see the browser as a canvas.
