Seed Packet Launch

Index Space is pleased to host the launch of “Vicia Faba,” a seed packet, created by Companion–Platform, for the Are.na Gift Shop. Come enjoy a Sunday afternoon celebrating the fava bean and “gift proliferation”—

This project began by imagining a gift could be a beginning rather than an end in & of itself. A single seed inherently has “gift alchemy”—as contained within a single seed is the possibility for many seeds—ideas explored in Robin Wall Kimmerer’s essay, The Serviceberry: An Economy of Abundance.

Included inside the packet is a single fava bean and five plant stakes—included for when your own fava bean plant produces seeds you can give to others.

The fava bean is an incredibly hardy plant; it has a wide “hardiness zone”—its ability to grow in a number of different climates. It’s also a nitrogen fixer, having a net positive impact on the soil around it. And of course—it’s also edible!
