Seed + Soil
$32Sunday, Apr 27, 2025
6:00 pm — 8:00 pm UTC
Join us for a springtime workshop on seeding growth and subverting power. In this 2-hour session, you’ll combine compost and native pollinators into seed balls. As you get your hands dirty, you’ll get to know seeds as symbols of agency to nurture new growth following seasons of dormancy. By the end of the session, you will understand the importance of indigenous seed sovereignty and preserving local soil health. Seeds represent soft power, subversion against oppression, and practical ways we can beautify our nearby vacant lots, bare soil, and abandoned public land with native wildflower pollinators.
Program
- Welcome & Introduction: Seeds are life! Overview of seed saving, ecofeminism, and materials.
- Brief history of indigenous land protectors and subsistence farmers.
- Composting food scraps as an act of love. What compost does for soil health. How and what to grow in toxic soil.
- Make seed balls together. Discuss ecofeminist guerrilla gardening practices and public land use. Why is it important to plant flowers, not just food?
- Which seeds are best to plant for native birds and insects. Where to source heirloom organic seeds locally.
- Q&A and final thoughts. Share resources to learn more about local community gardens and compost sites.
