Sam Taylor and Megumi Tanaka are facilitating this event on behalf of the Index team. You may recognize Sam from Collective Reading or Megumi from Intro to Coding. Come say hi!
Description
When we say “teach”, perhaps what we really mean is “share”. Rather than a hierarchical teacher/student relationship (which is often one sided and lecture based), we see Index as a site for open discourse, collaboration, and experimentation. This workshop is for: weirdos, artists, multidisciplinary folks, and anyone who is interested in alternative education methods. It’s for you if you’ve never taught anything, but always thought you would be good at it. It’s especially for anyone who has been part of the Index community from the beginning. Come hang out!
No teaching experience required
This is a group workshop where all skill levels are welcome. We’ll introduce ourselves, talk about our ideas, and think about who they are for. We hope that you’ll leave this experience with a clear sense of next steps—and connections to peers with similar ideas.
Workshop Goals
- Get familiar with Index’s values
- Learn how an Index workshop gets put together
- Share your ideas with peers (and meet your peers!)
- Figure out next steps in your teaching or workshop hosting journey
What to bring
- Good ideas
- Good vibes
- A computer that can run FigJam
We recommend joining via Zoom so you can interact with everyone in the workshop! If you can’t join, we’ll also be streaming the workshop as a Public Square on the Index homepage and a recording will be posted afterward.
