정Jeong: An Exhibition of Contemporary Korean Design featuring work by Myung Taek Jung, Chungjae Kim, Junsu Kim, Jaiik Lee, Seungjin Yang, Jane Yang-D’Haene, Jinyeong Yeon, and Rahee Yoon
The exhibition takes its name from the Korean cultural value that is easier felt than it is defined. Jeong can be described as signifying a collective emotional connection to people and places, expressed through feelings of loyalty, affection, and community. Through a curatorial approach that embraces this ethos, The Future Perfect’s Sandy Park assembled an eclectic grouping of innovative art objects and concept furniture, collectively negotiating between Korean vernacular craft traditions and contemporary material culture. Bringing together artists whose work is shaped by a variety of approaches — from a rootedness in ancient craftsmanship, to interpretations of the traditional through new materials and techniques, to methods of working that are entirely reliant on contemporary technology — 정Jeong moves beyond an examination of cultural identity into a global conversation about consumerism and sustainability, as well as the all-encompassingly existential.
The Future Perfect
The Future Perfect’s St Luke’s Townhouse, located in the heart of the West Village, presents visitors with a residential concept gallery. This appointment-only gallery was built in 1901 and renovated by iconic English architect David Chipperfield in 2003. The experiential and exclusive environment of residence and gallery in one creates a unique space to view culturally important works in an innovative way.
Throughout the five-story home and garden, collectors, design professionals, and casual admirers can explore a discerning mix of hard-to-find, limited edition, and one-of-a-kind work.
Consistent with The Future Perfect’s history of boundary-breaking and participatory interior curation, the St. Luke’s Townhouse is, first and foremost, an experiential space.
