Saturdays from 2:00 pm — 4:00 pm UTC
During Generating Images with Machine Learning we’ll explore how text-to-images generative models help define new visual languages but also how they alter our perception of reality as a society. As a group, we will take a critical look at Machine Learning from the inside by making its core concepts & techniques more explicit and discussing its ethical dilemmas with real-world examples.
Throughout a six-week program, participants will be equipped with creative and critical tools that allow them to develop their own projects and create alternative, inclusive visual narratives.
You can expect a lively, activity-driven learning environment, a multidisciplinary peer group, and plenty of in-class demos. No previous experience of AI or computer programming is necessary.
Learning Outcomes
- Learn about prompt engineering for generative imagery
- Apply advanced techniques for visual compositing
- Discuss ethical dilemmas and develop critical thinking on the field
- Explore various models and learn how to train your own
Syllabus
Week 1 – Enter the Latent Space
Learn about the history of AI & Machine Learning, understand the underlying technical concepts, discover the application fields to get inspired and generate your first images.
Week 2 – Fundamentals to Image Generation
Improve your prompt engineering technique for image generation. Explore various models to experiment with a wide range of generated aesthetics.
Week 3 – Image-to-image Translation
Gain more control over your workflow and final composition. Explore the potential of neural style transfer and other techniques for concept art & visual prototyping.
Week 4 – Machine Learning & Society
Investigate about the ethical dilemmas related to generative models. Debate with your peers and expand your critical thinking on the field.
Week 5 – Model Training
Learn how to train your own model to gain more control over your generative process and avoid bias.
Week 6 – Personal projects
Share your creations with your peers and reflect on progress as we discover each other's imagery.
